A cting as your supplier responsible for the quality of finished parts, we provide all necessary design and engineering support to manufacturing, including the manufacturing and assembly instructions and inspection of the parts, etc. ensuring the parts delivered to you meet the required quality. While technically this is a natural transition from design to manufacturing where original designers and engineers are working to ensure their own design intent is achieved, and the quality of the parts as originally envisioned and specified is to their satisfaction. Also this is the most efficient and economical way of ensuring the best possible quality of the parts and setting up the production in a seamless and uninterrupted process from design to production. Additionally, for products to be manufactured in Asia, we prepare the fabrication drawings and other supporting documentation in a slightly different manner to accommodate the Asian business culture and industry practices keeping a very tight control over the quality of the parts produced.

The Far East suppliers we have been using are reputable companies with a proven track record as quality suppliers to a number of big US and European names behind several high end consumer and medical brands as well as the automotive industry, often with ISO 9000 series, even with ISO 13485 certifications for Medical Devices with good business practices and ethics. We ensure we have the appropriate NDA and IP agreements signed, but a simple yet the most effective strategy we have is ‘Not to put all the Eggs in the same basket’. We diversify outsourcing of the product per part /component to multiple suppliers preventing them from obtaining a big picture. Typically, based on a single or two unrelated components one cannot understand the function, indented purpose, quite often not even guess the industry the product is designed for. A small, but justifiable drawback of this approach is a bit more complex logistics and a need for immaculate designs.

Unlike many companies with not so strong engineering that prefer to rely on the manufacturing suppliers to tweak their design in order to achieve a required but missed mating of the two components are forced to disclose the complete assemblies to a supplier and practically jeopardise clients' Intellectual Property and make room for quick knockoffs, we take pride in our designs and the ability to split the production any way we like never relying on the suppliers to do our design and engineering work.

For a maximum protection we always advocate in favor of assembly in Canada and production of parts / and components in China. This approach is also beneficial in terms of shipping costs as most of the parts produced are shipped in appropriate component level packaging (bulk), while, finished goods typically require much more space per unit.

While Asia has been the only answer to today's very competitive markets, where inexpensive parts and products are critical to remain profitable, design and engineering in Asia is, in the long term, possibly the worst decision one can make, unless a product ending up in a 'Dollar Store' is the ultimate goal.

While many great and high quality products are manufactured in Asia, each of us definitely having a few, one will recognize that not a single of those products has been designed in Asia.

We can certainly speculate about the reasons why the quality designs do not come from Asia; the another aspect is that the designs performed in Asia are subject to breach of your Intellectual Property, protectability / patentability and other IP issues. and obviously easy leak of your Know-How, and opening the door for possible emergence of the quick and easy knock off designs and dirty competition.

While there are companies with strong ties (sometimes even family ties) with Asia, some acting as sales reps or having the China based offices, who will outsource design and engineering to Asia, we at DESIGNLORE will NEVER outsource design and engineering activities to Far East NOT even drafting services.

We realize that there are some Canadian & US based companies which simply can not resist very lucrative opportunities, and are prepared to sneak a portion or even complete set of design activities to their Asian counterpart, and, in turn, can offer design and engineering services far more competitive than we can, and even make bigger profits. Risking the success of clients' product by a substandard design, jeopardizing clients' position on the market by knock-off competition as well as the loss of Intellectual Property advantages; and in the long term the impact such drain of good Know How has on the North American economy, in our opinion is not the way to make a profit.

Therefore, we deliberately give up on such ill made profits and competitiveness achieved in our opinion, by practically selling the clients' long term interests for a possibly slightly higher profit, we position ourselves as a true North American supplier of the high quality engineering and design services. We take pride in our own design and engineering work and believe not everything is for sale.

We can not prevent our competition from using the Asian suppliers for design and engineering, so it is up to our customers to read in between the lines and wonder if the design and engineering rates quoted are realistic for North American market.
